Young athletes from Blackheath and Bromley Harriers are preparing to represent the United Kingdom at the prestigious European Junior Club Championships at the end of September.
Bromley Mytime has given their backing to the trip “We have worked in partnership with the Club for a number of years and we are delighted to be able to give a helping hand to talented sportspeople in the borough. We wish the squad well as they represent their country” said Steve Price, Chief Executive of Bromley Mytime.
The squad making the trip to the Czech Republic consists of 30 athletes and 10 officials, one competitor Lauren Blackie a top 10 London ranked athlete has high aspirations “We are all really excited to be competing against the top eight clubs in Europe and we hope to come home with some medals”.
“A big thank you to all those who given funding support, Bromley Mytime, UK Athletics, The Jack Petchey Foundation, Nike, the Club and the athletes themselves, all without which the trip wouldn’t have been possible” said Patrick Calnan Head of Active Athletics at the Club.
This opportunity comes after fantastic results recently in which Blackheath & Bromley athletes won the National junior league title and have been crowned National and Southern Champions. These results alone mean that the girls team have already been selected to represent the UK in Europe again in 2008.
The improvements made recently to the Norman Park track through investment by Bromley Council has enabled Blackheath & Bromley Harriers to bring many more talented athletes through the ranks.
