Equality and Equity

We live and work in an increasingly diverse society and therefore recognise the need to review our service provision continually. When necessary, we will make changes to ensure that services are available to all customers. Bromley Mytime endeavours to understand what is important to our current and future customers, to provide our services appropriately and aspire to make ongoing improvements.

Equity is about fairness, equality of access, recognising inequalities and taking steps to address them. It is about changing our culture and structure to ensure that Bromley Mytime is equally accessible to all members of society,

To show Bromley Mytime’s commitment to equality of opportunity for all, the Board of Trustees adopted an Equal Opportunities and Equity policy in September 2006. This commits the organisation to ensure that no existing or future customers, employee or volunteer receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of age, gender, disability, race, ethnic origin, nationality, colour, parental or marital status, pregnancy, religious belief, class or social background, sexual preference or political belief.

We are committed to promoting and developing equity, both within our programme development and in our work with partner organisations.

To ensure that equality remains high profile throughout the organisation, an Equality Project Group has been created consisting of staff representing all areas of Bromley Mytime to convert the commitments made to equality within the policy into clear delivery targets. The Equality Project Group has created an Equality Action Plan covering the period April 2008-March 2009.

Bromley Mytime recognises that it is all very well to have policies and plans, but the true test of equality is ultimately only measured through delivery. The following are just a few examples of work that Bromley Mytime is already undertaking to show that our commitment is real:

  • This Website complies with a variety of Web accessibility standards
  • We have just been awarded the ‘two ticks’ symbol by jobcentreplus in recognition of our
    commitment to employing disabled people.
  •  A pan-disability focus group, consisting of existing or potential customers, has been created to identify requirements.
  • The Primetime brand has been developed across all centres to ensure there are appropriate activities for older people.
  • Cricket coaching is being delivered into estates across the Borough and targeting people that traditionally have not had access to the sport.
  • As part of the buzz programme, there are inclusive after school and breakfast clubs, as well as holiday time day camps for children aged 5-11.
  • A series of family fun days.
  • Discounted membership schemes to encourage wider access to our centres and services.
  • The production of a community mural on the side of the Co-op by local people in Mottingham.
  • The production of the No Limits Leisure Guide for people with disabilities in Bromley.
  • A range of activity that appeals primarily to women such as aerobic and body balance sessions.
  • Co-ordinated 2 open days as part of ABLE 2 Disability Awareness Week, 26 March to 1 April 2008
