The London Youth Games

The London Youth Games

The London Youth Games proved to be a hugely successful event for Bromley this year being crowned the 2007 Champions. Our young sports people achieved a fantastic result beating 32 other London boroughs. Despite many top scores Bromley last achieved gold in the Youth Games 16 years ago. In recognition of this success, The Mayor of Bromley Councillor Pauline Tunnicliffe and Olympic Silver medallist Alison Mowbray attended a celebratory reception at The Ravensbourne School with many of the participants.

The London Youth Games, started in 1977, is now the largest youth games event in Europe, with over 23,000 young people taking part from the whole of London's 33 boroughs. The finals weekend, at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre, is usually held over the 2nd weekend in July, with a variety of preliminary events taking place throughout June.

LYG – Mini Games

The mini games are for primary aged children, with eight different sports being played; all teams are mixed boys and girls – basketball, football, hockey, rugby, netball, athletics (sports hall athletics) and boccia. Bromley Mytime works together with Bromley’s School Sports Partnership Managers to coordinate Bromley’s entries into the mini games.
