Your Future Made Better by 'MyFuture'

25 April 2008

My Future Cheque Presentation

‘MyFuture’ is an exciting new programme currently being delivered in two areas in Bromley – Mottingham and Orpington. This two year project will provide regular arts and sports activities, helping young people to develop new skills and participate in positive activities which will make a real difference for local communities.

The free activities are for young people aged 11-16 who currently don’t access quality sports or arts programmes in their local area.

MyFuture launched on 10th April 2008 at Bromley’s Castlecombe Youth Centre in Mottingham. The event was attended by 15 young people who took part in T-shirt designing and also the Jack Petchey Foundation who presented a cheque for £27, 500 to local charitable leisure trust Bromley Mytime who are leading the MyFuture programme.

The launch was a great chance for the young people to meet and give their views to the Deputy Mayor Brenda Thompson, local Councillors and local Ex Chelsea footballer Paul Elliott (Mytime Patron). The day was a real success with young people learning new skills and having fun. One young person said “Making my own T-shirt was quality because you know no one else will be wearing one”. Further activities which took place over 2 days gave over 45 young people the chance to custom design and keep their own T-shirts.

Over £60,000 of funding per annum has been successfully secured for the programme, provided by the Jack Petchey Foundation, the London Borough of Bromley, Broomleigh Housing Association and Bromley Mytime. This will ensure that this two year programme makes a very real and positive difference for the young people in these areas. Youth Programme Coordinator Keith Sykes said “This money will ensure that quality coaching and provisions are put in place for the young people to experience new activities in a relaxed, fun and safe environment.”
