National Pool Lifeguard Course

National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) is recognised by the Royal Life Saving Society and ISRM

Course Overview

To provide theoretical and practical skills and knowledge to any person who at any time is associated with pool lifeguard practices. To be qualified in both units 1 and 2 at the end of the course.

The course will cover:-

  • Safety (Bather/Lifeguard)
  • Spinal cord injury management

Course Pre-requisites

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Must be able to jump/dive into water.
  • Swim 50 metres in no more than 60 seconds.
  • Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water, tread water for 30 seconds.
  • Surface dive to the bottom of the pool.
  • Climb out without ladder/steps and where the pool design permits.

Guided learning hours for each section (minimum) - homework complements the course and must be completed.

Unit 1

  • CPR - 6 hours
  • Spinal Cord Injury Management - 6 hours
  • Pool Operational Practice - 8 hours
  • Aquatic Rescue Skills - 4 hours
  • First Aid and Casualty Management - 6 hours
  • Consolidation and revision at the end of the course - 1 hour

Unit 2

Completed within the course - 7 hours 

Duration

One week, total of 38 hours

Monday 18 to Friday 22 August 2008 at the Spa at Beckenham

Monday 25 August (8.00am to 4.00pm), Tuesday 26 to Friday 29 August at the Spa at Beckenham

Times

9.00am to 5.00pm (except where stated)

NB This course involves both a practical and theory assessment.
Candidates will be advised of their results at the end of the course.

Cost

£200.00 (includes assessment)

Qualification

Certificate in Unit 1 and 2, valid for two years
