Health Suite Closure at the Spa at Beckenham

18 June 2008

Unfortunately the health suite will close with effect from 1st July 2008 due to continued dilapidation and the high level of maintenance required to keep the facility operating successfully. Customers will be aware that the Jacuzzi has been shut for some weeks, and further investigations will need to be carried out before an announcement can be made about the longer term future of the health suite.

Bromley Mytime apologises for any inconvenience caused.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is the Spa health suite being closed because of VAT issues?

A: No.

Q: What is the VAT issue with managing health suites?

A: Her Majesty’s Customs and Excise have ruled that health suites are not a zero rated supply. This means in effect that offering the health suite service as part of our “Activetime” (Gold/Bronze/Swim) or “Primetime” memberships could render Mytime liable for VAT on all its membership revenues which would jeopardise the viability of the trust. Other trusts are taking steps to minimise liability by either closing health suites, or offering a stand alone health suite service clearly separated from existing membership packages. Mytime will decide what course of action is best for Spa customers having listened to their concerns, and assessed the impact on the business as a whole.

Q: Is the health suite being closed due to customer complaints regarding anti-social behaviour ?

A: We have had problems with anti-social behaviour and customers continually not adhering to the ‘’rules of use’’. We have attempted to manage this area through our staff and the employment of independent security.

Q: Is the health suite being closed on health and safety grounds?

A: The Health & Safety of our staff and customers is paramount to Bromley Mytime. We respond immediately to any concerns raised and continually review our safety policies and procedures

Q: What is the long term future for the health suite at the Spa?

A This will only be agreed after a further assessment has taken place of the condition of the current facility, and whether it can continue to be operated as a viable and successful service. This may take up to 3 months.

Q: (In the meantime) can we use the health suite at another Mytime centre?

A: Yes – both the Walnuts (Orpington) and the Pavilion (Bromley) operate health suites.

Q: Can I get a refund on my activetime/primetime (previously Gold/Bronze/Swim) membership.

A: No refunds will be issued as the health suite has not been part of the membership package since January 2006. We made this change because of VAT implications and since then we have allowed our Gold/Bronze, Activetime/Primetime members access free of charge as a gesture of goodwill.
