The films were screened at ‘First Night Screening event’ held at the unusual location of the Concert Platform in Crystal Place Park on Friday 15th July. The audience was treated to watching the films from the comfort of their own deckchair, all provided for free.
The ‘Best of Boroughs’ screening took place at Antenna Studios in the heart of Crystal Palace both of which drew crowds in from across the borough.
It was an amazing opportunity for all to see the emerging talent from the London Borough of Bromley and show thier support. The films featured were an eclectic mix of various genres. Highlights included a stop motion animation film, a nihilistic thriller a love triangle and tongue in cheek horror film.
Young people across the Borough including students from Charles Darwin School and Ravens Wood School took part in a programme of seminars and practical workshops with experienced filmmakers, both in school and out of school settings and got to see their films on the big screen for the first time.
Suburban Shorts is now in it’s third year running and is provided in partnership with Raindance East programme and supported by the National Lottery through the UK Film Council and Film London Regional Investment Fund for England, Enfield Film Awards, Arts and Events Tower Hamlets, and Bromley Mytime the project is now in its third year of running.
Arts and Film Officer Kiaran Hall says, “The festival was a great success and wonderful that so many people from across the borough came and enjoyed it so much. This was a fantastic opportunity for aspiring film makers to really get involved and have taste of what it’s like to have you’re film on the big screen.”
