Swimathon 2007

13 February 2007

Swimathon is the biggest swimming event in the UK with over 20,000 swimmers in more than 500 pools across the country diving in to show their support for Marie Curie Cancer Care and to help raise funds to continue to provide expert nursing to terminally ill cancer patients.

Bromley Mytime has launched its involvement in Swimathon 2007 by inviting local people and staff to get involved. Four of the pools will be opening their doors in March to teams or individuals who want to raise money for the charity.

The dates and times of Bromley Mytime's sessions for Swimathon 2007 are:

Maureen Cunningham, Swimming Development Office at Bromley Mytime, said, "Swimming is a great activity and gives participants a fantastic cardiovascular workout and at the same time tones the body. Better still, people participating in this year's Swimathon can feel even better by helping to raise funds for Marie Curie to look after cancer patients".

Swimathon is open to everyone. Participants can swim in a team or as individuals setting their own personal challenge by accomplishing a distance of their choice. To take part, swimmers should register online at (external link)www.swimathon.org or call the Swimathon Team on 0845 36 700 36 and register over the phone before midnight on Tuesday 20 March.

An additional registration will also take place at each of Bromley Mytime's pools, 30 minutes before the start of each Swimathon.

Swimathon also forms part of Bromley Mytime's 'active bromley' campaign which aims to encourage residents of Bromley to become more physically active. Exciting events coming up in addition to Swimathon include a family fun day and a family triathlon event at the Spa at Beckenham.
