Over £17,000 raised by Swimathon 2007 in Bromley!

14 August 2007

Swimmers across the borough raised over £17,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care as part of the national Swimathon event. Over 200 swimmers participated at 4 Bromley swimming pools including, Darrick Wood Pool, The Spa at Beckenham, Walnuts Leisure Centre and West Wickham Leisure Centre.

An incredible £10,639.83 was raised at The Spa at Beckenham by 74 swimmers to contribute to the national total that is approaching £1.4million.

Maureen Cunningham, Swimming Development Officer at Bromley Mytime said “Swimming is a great activity and gives participants a fantastic cardiovascular workout and at the same time tones the body. Better still, people participating in the Swimathon helped raise a massive amount for cancer patients”.
Swimathon is the biggest swimming event in the UK and over 20,000 swimmers in more than 500 pools across the country dived in to show their support for Marie Curie Cancer Care and raised funds to continue to provide expert nursing to terminally ill cancer patients.

Swimathon is open to everyone. Participants can swim in a team or as individuals setting their own personal challenge by accomplishing a distance of their choice.

Bromley Mytime hope to raise even more money for charity at Swimathon 2008. Interested swimmers should note Thursday 17th to Sunday 20th April 2008 as the official dates of the events and keep a look out on this website for confirmed dates as soon as they are available. Details will be released soon.
