Bromley District Cricket Coaching (BDCC) who work in partnership with Bromley Mytime and Kent Cricket Board to deliver cricket across the borough, is now also working with the London Community Cricket Association (LCCA) and Broomleigh Housing Association to deliver cricket in the community through the 'Urban Cricket' scheme.
The aim of the scheme is to make a positive impact on the lives of individuals and communities bringing people from different ethnic backgrounds together through cricket, making team mates of individuals who would not normally have met and giving them pride in their community. The scheme also helps disabled young people gain confidence and feel included and it gives girls and young women the chance to fulfil their cricketing potential and develop careers in sport. Most of all, it gives often excluded young poeple the chance to have fun and make friends.
Three pilot cricket sessions will run consecutively on three Broomleigh estates in the borough in July 2007. Young people between the ages of 5 - 21 years will be invited to come along and try cricket. The format will be continuous cricket with players dropping in and out over a one and half to two hour period. Some coaching will take place during the play but the main emphasis is actually on playing the game. BDCC will ensure that all players will be given information on local clubs and personally introduce them to club representatives where necessary.
