Competing against the best young stars from all over London last weekend, the London Youth Games held at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre brings together athletes from a wide variety of sporting disciplines from athletics to tennis, archery to swimming and canoeing to Hockey.
Impressive results flooded in all weekend which culminated in an outstanding 2nd place – the best result for Bromley since 1993!
The Bromley team won six gold medals overall after clinching victory in mixed tennis, girls swimming, mixed badminton, boys hockey, mixed fencing, and mixed athletics plus a 3rd placing for girls netball and a 4th place for the trampolining team.
Tina Slater, Sports Development Officer, said: "Bromley’s young athletes get better and better. I am delighted by the effort put in by the whole Bromley Team; the athletes, managers and coaches. Everybody involved worked thoroughly hard and got their rewards which could not have been achieved without the continued support of the team managers who give up so much time to hold trails, training and ultimately prepare their teams to compete. I am extremely impressed with the strength in depth of the Bromley team, and the effective working partnership established between clubs, SDU and schools.”
The Mini Games held for primary school children also took place in the finals week and was equally well supported by schools, clubs, teachers and coaches and Bromley’s team were especially commended for being polite, well behaved and talented sportspeople!
